This Week on TRB

I had a little interlude earlier this week, a three day stay at North Shore Hospital due to a flare up of the chronic condition I live with, Crohn’s disease. I was diagnosed in 1998 and have been managing it with an exclusionary diet up until now. My gastro guy took a job teaching so I am starting with a new doc this week. No surgery and no ongoing medication so far, and I’m hoping to keep it that way. Anyway, I got out Wednesday and I’m feeling really good.

I got this text while I was hooked to all the tubes and needles and it really made my day:

The more I think about it, the more I realize what a big influence Public Enemy was on me – I loved that they could say really radical, truthful stuff but do it in a way that forced the mainstream to pay attention: Creativity, intelligence, musicianship, urgency. I also always admired the righteous indignation the band expressed, no matter who the audience was, and how far ahead of their time they were on calling out social issues. That took courage and foresight and an ironclad confidence that they were on the right side.

I hope we’ve done some modest amount of that sort of damage to the worst, most entrenched parts of the wealth management industry over the years on our blogs. I like to think our words have had an impact. Anyway, shout to Flav, this truly made my year.
