It turns out…

Watching the election results roll in while my beloved Knicks stole another one at the Garden last night, I had a few thoughts…

It turns out that people actually don’t want their healthcare taken away from them and, for the most part, aren’t cool with the Klan.

It turns out that alienating women, minorities and people under 40 just to pass a deficit-exploding tax cut that does nothing to address the real problems in the economy might not be the most effective political strategy.

It turns out that Americans all over the country don’t love the fact that one party turned itself into a cult of personality and bent itself into pretzels to assuage the perpetually wounded ego of one man.

It turns out that swing voters aren’t down with disrespecting the FBI, Gold Star families, freedom of the press and the Justice Department.

It turns out that promises from the Madoff of Real Estate aren’t afforded an infinite time horizon to become a reality.

It turns out that the improving economy and stock market and consumer confidence were not generated by the bluster of any one man and, as such, will not be credited to him by the electorate, no matter how many tweets he sends.

It turns out that the Republicans and conservatives didn’t lose last night, because Republicans and conservatives are Americans.

And last night, America won.

In 2018, reasonable people of all states, parties and socioeconomic backgrounds will chase these fascists back into the caves they came out of and restore civility to the American political process once again.

It turns out that we can have a functioning democracy after all.
