‘Straight Outta Compton’ red band trailer hits! (NSFW)

I don’t have time to explain why this is really cool and I totally get that if you’re not from my generation you’re not into it. F. Gary Gray directs, and yes, Ice Cube is played by his own real-life son (O’Shea Jackson Jr), so the resemblance shouldn’t totally shock you. All living members of the group were on board with the project and, obviously, they had full permission to use the original tracks.

Before the trailer, there’s an intro by Ice Cube and Dre, shot recently as they return to their old stomping grounds and put the history in perspective.

The police-vs-civilians angle is played up here for its obvious topicality given the Ferguson protests. The film comes out in August.
