Subtracting Tuesdays – a Very Different Picture

We’ve discussed the Tuesday effect here a bunch (see: Buy Monday, Sell Tuesday), my theory is that it is a result of Monday’s inbound equity market inflows into retirement accounts and such that forces mutual fund PMs to put it to work the next morning. Every weekend that people have gotten back to work from, without the world exploding, has led to another Monday’s worth of cash shoveling into the furnace.

Anyway, here’s Andrew Horowitz’s hilarious chart of Dow Jones and S&P returns if we net out the effect of Tuesday performance this year – that’ll teach you not to time markets intra-week!
