The First Bailout

That’s right, the first bailout on American soil took place in the 1620’s, it’s kind of what Thanksgiving is all about.  Yes the pilgrims made it, but no, they couldn’t subsist alone out here in the wild.

Also, keep in mind that Plymouth Mass. is really only the Disneyfied version of the earliest America – our own creation myth.  The reality is one of starvation settlements like Jamestown, where 500 “pilgrims” arrived and a few years later only 60 were left (having survived on the meat of their dead fellow settlers, true story).

But I like the Disneyfied version better than the one with the cannibalism and skeletal-looking Englishmen in Virginia.  So here’s my tribute:
