I remember when that Clooney movie, Up in the Air, came out at the beginning of the recession during the layoffs phase. It was note perfect both as a standalone film and in the context of what was really happening across the country. Now, two years or so later, we get this Tom Hanks entry, about someone who’s just basically become too non-crucial to keep on in their current job and not skilled enough to be hired. Once again, art imitating life as more than 13 million Americans are now facing this issue more than three years after the crisis that changed everything.
Anyway, Larry Crowne starring Hanks and Julia Roberts is the new hot trailer in Hollywood this week. Hanks wrote and directed this himself, the first time he’s done so on a film since That Thing You Do. Check it out:
