LOL, I was the fucking man in 1993 – I was 16 and my parents were never home and we started a band to meet girls and I was the drummer with the drum set so all the rehearsals were at my house and so we would have combination rehearsals that were really parties that we’d invite all our friends to on Friday and Saturday nights and, well, you know the rest.
We were playing the shit that was going on then, an eclectic mix of 120 Minutes-era alt rock, post-grunge etc, stuff from Nirvana, STP, Pearl Jam, Urge Overkill, Live, Toadies, Silverchair, Green Day and yes – The Breeders!
In case you were already old in ’93 and couldn’t be bothered or you were not yet born, the track of theirs you probably know (knew) was called Canonball.
Anyway, just the other day, the Breeders announced announced that they were reunited and touring in 2013. We already know of one event at which they’ll play their ’93 album, ‘Last Splash’, in full. Kim Deal, a founding member of the Pixies prior to starting the Breeders, is like 52 years old now! The reunion came about when Kim text-messaged the rest of the band to see if they were down for a ‘Last Splash’ 20th anniversary tour. Apparently, they were!
So, with that rambling preamble, here’s some rehearsal footage they’ve just released to the web to announce their return. Got me excited, at least…
And for old times sake, here’s Canonball, which still rocks:
