Carl Bernstein on Rupert Murdoch's Watergate

I’m a little late to understanding the magnitude of what’s happening with the News of the World scandal over in England.  It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just that, well, tabloids talking about tabloids?  How much time is there in the day for a hall of mirrors like that?

But now I’m interested.  Carl Bernstein made me get interested.  The legendary, intrepid reporter whose 1970’s investigative journalism brought down the Nixon administration believes this is a major story in the making…

From Newsweek (I know!  Newsweek???):

Between the Post, Fox News, and the Journal, it’s hard to think of any other individual who has had a greater impact on American political and media culture in the past half century.

But now the empire is shaking, and there’s no telling when it will stop. My conversations with British journalists and politicians—all of them insistent on speaking anonymously to protect themselves from retribution by the still-enormously powerful mogul—make evident that the shuttering of News of the World, and the official inquiries announced by the British government, are the beginning, not the end, of the seismic event.

Bernstein says it’s “seismic”.  OK, I’m in, click over if you are as well.
