Chart o’ the Day: First Half Trends and Asset Class Report Card

Hard to believe half of 2014 is already in the books. Things are moving really quickly – maybe it’s just me. My eight year old daughter told us she’s ready to go to sleepaway camp next summer with her friends and my wife has spent the last 12 hours crying / online shopping. I wish things would slow up for a moment, but what are ya gonna do?

Anyway – today’s chart comes to us from Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s RIC Report – in which the Research Investment Committee breaks down year-to-date performance for all the relevant indices and asset classes. Overall, they note, that value is leading growth within small caps while in large caps the opposite is true – large cap growth is up 7.3% YTD, leading all US equity categories. On the fixed income side, we were delighted to see Preferred Stocks leading the entire category, as it’s an area we allocated heavily towards in January for our core asset allocation models. The preferred index is up 11.9% YTD, crushing the field.
