Protecting NFL Players from Financial Fraud

My friend David Byrne flew into New York last week to talk about his new venture…

Josh here – my guest this week is David Byrne, a former regulator who’s taken everything he’s learned and started a consulting firm to help professional athletes avoid financial fraud and bad investing advice.

David’s firm, Bright Lights, is there to vet financial advisors before players hire them. Given the high rate of bankruptcies and crimes committed against professional NFL, NBA, MLB players and others, this service can be invaluable. Families of players, lawyers, agents and other personnel contact David when they need to be sure they’re picking the right man or woman for portfolio management and investment services.

David talks with me about some of the things he’s learned since going into the business and from his time monitoring brokerage firms in South Florida, one of America’s hotbeds of financial crime.
