Saturday Night Video: Dawes Will Rule Your Summer

I get a little mellow in the music department come this time of year and I think the band Dawes is going to be heavy in the rotation all summer long.

If you’re unfamiliar, Dawes makes records in a note-perfect Laurel Canyon sound – the kind of rock that came out of the North Hills section of LA in the late 1960’s and early 1970s. Think Joni Mitchell, The Byrds, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Buffalo Springfield.

But where a lesser band would be stuck in homage mode, Dawes has the playing and songwriting chops to stand on its own – even if it waves that influence like a flag.

I’ve got two videos below, one is from Lollapalooza last summer at which they performed If I Wanted Someone off their last incredible album, ‘Nothing is Wrong’.

Below that is the band performing the lead single off their just-released record ‘Stories Don’t End’ live at SXSW this spring, it’s called From a Window Seat.
