The 40th Annual Market Technician’s Coven: An Insider’s Notes

My friends Greg Harmon, John Boorman, Ryan Detrick and others in the technical analysis community descended upon New York City this week for the Market Technician’s Association’s 40th anniversary and annual symposium.

A laundry list of legendary technicians – Ralph Acampora, MaryAnn Bartels, Bob Prechter, Andrew Lo – spoke and panels and gave presentations to the faithful on everything from the current state of the markets to the future of technical analysis. This particular discipline – which is really the study of price seen through the lens of “supply and demand” –  has been growing in influence on The Street quite vigorously of late, especially since the formerly hegemonic fundamental analysis community so badly missed the Credit Crash.

My pal JC Parets, a Chartered Market Technician and hedge fund manager who writes the All Star Charts blog, took some amazing notes of what everyone had to say.
