Fun With Trendistic: Bieber vs Mubarak

I found this really cool Twitter data visualizing tool this weekend and played around with it a bit.

Basically Trendistic takes data about the timing and volume of tweets mentioning a given keyword and spits out a timeline.  Where things get really interesting is when you compare one keyword versus another.  For example, if you wanted proof that the news cycle has moved on from Egypt and you wanted to see exactly when that happened and why – try comparing the terms Bieber (red) versus Mubarak (blue).  Guess who’s in pole position now:

And what commodity got the most attention on Twitter when Tahrir Square became ground zero for the Middle Eastern protests?  If you guessed oil, boy were you wrong…twas gold!

See below where Gold is in red, oil is in blue and Tahrir is in yellow.
