Jobless Claims out this morning…
New York Times on the weekly number:
The Labor Department said Thursday that applications rose by 18,000 to a seasonally adjusted 409,000 in the week that ended Saturday. Applications fell to 391,000 in the previous week, the lowest point since July 2008.
And Bloomberg on the four week average (more important):
The average number of applications for jobless benefits over the past four weeks dropped to 410,750, the lowest level since July 2008, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. Claims for the week ended Jan. 1 rose by 18,000 to 409,000, in line with the median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News.
This comes on the heels of that bananas payrolls number from ADP that shocked the market with its strength. We’ll see if the government data confirms it tomorrow.
