My Obligatory LeBron Prediction Post

UPDATED: Do me a favor – don’t read this if you’re a priggish corporate-type for whom emotion is subservient to “appearances” and “reputation”.  If that’s you, trust me, you’re not wanted here.

My reaction to the LeBron-going-to-Miami news is as follows:  LeBron’s a wuss.

He had an opportunity to come here to a broken but once-great NY franchise and become an absolute god upon its resurrection.  Instead, he chose to go to Miami with his little girlfriends from his sorority days, the “safe choice”.  This is why the Jordan comparisons are meaningless – if he wins with the other two best players in the league, it will be meaningless and cheap and no one outside of South Florida will care.

He will never, I repeat NEVER be a true champion.  The real challenge that could have changed the world was in front of him, and at even money, he chose the safe option.  Stay in Cleveland, come ignite New York City, reinvent the Nets – anything but glomming onto Wade’s team, man!  How could you do that?  You’re LeBron James!

I don’t care how many titles you win, you’re nobody’s hero.

The market followed through nicely after yesterday’s rally, I don’t have much to add to what the action itself is speaking (or not speaking) right now.

But since I’m a well-known New York Knicks fanatic, I guess it’s time I weighed in on the LeBron James thing.  Tonight’s ESPN “Decision” special will be one of the most-watched TV events of the year.

So first up, my prediction?  He’s coming here.  Not just because I’m a fan; a few weeks ago I wasn’t very confident at all.  Now, though, I think it will happen.  But I’m just another guy with an opinion and nothing special to back it up.

I do think that one of the big stumbling blocks has been (or will have been) the ownership of the team by the Dolans.  There’s very little this father-son team hasn’t screwed up.  Should LeBron put himself anywhere near the radioactive Madison Square Garden crime scene that’s developed over the last 12 years or so?

The Miami thing makes no sense to me.  Why would he want to join the kindom where D Wade already reigns?  I know it gives him a better shot at a title, but still.

Is he going to stay in Cleveland?  I don’t get why he would need to do an hour special on ESPN to announce that he’s going to stay a Cavalier.  Would be a very weird anti-climactic show to say the least.

I’m not gung ho on my call that Bron Bron comes to NY and I’ve read and heard all the same stuff that you guys have…I just feel like it has to happen.

Or not.  We’ll see.
