I read something about Warren Buffett the other day that made me insanely jealous. It had nothing to do with his standing as one of the richest men on earth or with the actual fortune itself.
No, I am jealous of how Warren gets to spend his time at the office. According to his business partner Charlie Munger, Warren spends half his day reading. Half.
I want to spend a third of my working day reading, a third investing and a third writing. I would kill to be able to do that and have all three be inter-related. Is that possible? Are there people who are doing that now?
Am I on my way toward being able to do that?
I am insanely jealous of Warren simply for his ability to spend half of his days reading. I would read everything – from Ancient Greece up until the present.
Warren Buffett is turning 81 in August. I am 34. I wonder, would he be jealous of me for that simple fact alone? Would he gladly give up all that time he has to read for the ability to be back in his 30’s right now in 2011 – even if it meant he couldn’t achieve everything he’s already achieved necessarily?
Is the sheer amount of time I have in front of me of greater value than the sheer amount of success he has behind him?
What do you wish you could spend half of your work day doing? Are you already doing it?
