Toy Story Tore It Up This Weekend

I like when someone makes a quality product and people dutifully go out and pay money for it.  This encourages more quality product creation and guess what else?  That’s right, more consumption.  Everyone wins and the kids enjoy themselves.

Way to go John Lasseter, Pixar and Disney.

From TIME:

Pixar’s Toy Story 3 … will ring up a weekend gross of $109 million in North American theaters, judging by early studio estimates. That’s the best beginning for a Pixar feature, the highest opening ever for a G-rated movie and — pending the announcement of actual numbers tomorrow, instead of today’s estimate — the top June release.

$109 million isn’t a bananas number, but Pixar films have legs in a way that films from other studios usually don’t.  This thing will be putting up numbers deep into the summer as parents who stayed away from crowded opening weekend theaters show up along with the people who need to see it twice.  And the 3D angle adds 3 bucks a pop, too.

To Infinity And …. no I won’t go there.  🙂
