Movin’ up!

My little girl graduates sixth grade today and I have no idea how that’s possible. We moved out from the Upper East Side to the suburbs a decade ago when she turned two years old. Now she’s 12 and headed to middle school. I know a lot of stuff has gone on between then and now, but the speed with which the time passed….everyone warned me it would go fast. It went even faster than they’d said.

Seven years ago she was in kindergarten. I asked her to help me out with some financial commentary around the greatest issue of the day during the summer of 2011. She wasn’t particularly concerned. I’m glad I listened and continued to live my life and keep investing…

Since the whole Debt Ceiling thing that summer, there’ve been plenty of other financial things to carry on about that turned out to have been not so important. There will be a whole lot more between now and when she’s off to high school a few years from today.

I’ll take them in stride and try my best to leave that stuff out of our lives, and in the office where it belongs.

And through it all, I’ll continue to invest. For her future, my future and everything I want for my family, my business, my clients, my employees.

The headlines and the volatility will always be there. But the moments in your life that truly matter will come and go. I’m off to watch the ceremony now. It’ll be just one more milestone in a series that come and go in rapid succession. I’m going to live in this moment and then in all of the rest of them too – and let the markets do what they will in the spaces between.
