…then please find the time to devour Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History podcast episode dealing with the world’s history with nuclear weapons, ‘The Destroyer of Worlds‘.
What if we’ve created something more powerful than our entire species is capable of handling? It’s possible that we already have. Dan released this last summer and it’s one of the most informative, haunting and fascinating things I’ve ever come into contact with. He looks at the origins of the atomic weapons program, the various historical twists and turns that brought the United States and Russia to the brink and more. The story is loaded with amazing anecdotes from the realms of presidential history, scientific discovery, military strategy and more.
When it’s over, you’ll come away with a tremendous appreciation for the ways in which the Kennedy, Truman and Eisenhower administrations handled themselves at key moments. You’ll also have some better context for how our leaders think about the power they currently wield – and the responsibility. I’m not saying it won’t be scary, I’m just telling you that you need to understand it.
The podcast is free and can be listened to in iTunes, on the web or with whatever your favorite app is. When it’s done, you’ll wish there was more. Carlin is amazing.
