I’m Going to Read Seven Books This Summer – You Can Choose Them!

Here’s the deal – I grew up as a voracious reader and this continued up until about 10 years ago, when my daughter was born and then my son came along. The pace of my consumption of books slowed considerably (although I still read something like 50,000 words a day in terms of research, articles, blog posts etc).

I simply can’t justify lying on a couch while my kids grow up in the room next door. So I’ve been averaging just 11 or 12 books a year for the last few years. It doesn’t bother me much, I’ve come to accept that this is the right choice and that, when they grow up I’ll have all the time in the world to get back to the reading room.

Anyway, this summer presents an opportunity to do something I haven’t done since my twenties: I’m going to read seven books in the seven weeks starting at the end of June. My kids are both off to sleepaway camp for the first time. I’ll have nothing but time and no guilt whatsoever. (You might be asking about my wife. She can only tolerate me in small increments. A few hours here, a dinner there. I’m a lot to deal with.)

Okay, so here’s the fun part. I need a list of seven books for seven weeks and I want you to suggest them. Here’s how:

Tweet “Seven Books” along with your recommendation to the @ritholtzwealth twitter account.

My summer intern will compile a list of all your suggestions and we’ll take the most recommended, provided I haven’t already read it. For some idea of what I’m looking for, I like history, biography, finance (no textbooks), pop culture and innovation. I’ll even include a novel or two on the list if it fits within one of these topics.
